Best destinations by month

November through February offers the easiest broad conditions for long outdoor days. Mornings can be busy at principal monuments, so start early and reserve quieter structures for late afternoon.

March through May is intensely hot. Limit exposed walking to early morning and the later afternoon, carry more water than you expect to need and do not build a day around a midday hill climb.

June through September brings monsoon variability. Cloud can help with heat, but rain, slippery rock and changing river conditions can disrupt paths and crossings. Use current local advice.

October is a transition month: greener landscapes and lingering rain can be rewarding, while heat and wet surfaces still require flexibility. Major festivals and holiday weekends can sharply increase pressure in any otherwise suitable month.
