The beach

Several kilometres of wide, fine, gently shelving sand, lifeguarded and comprehensively equipped -- the reason the resort exists.

The thermal spa

Hot mineral water drawn from beneath the town, which is unusual in a beach resort and extends the season either side of summer.

The smoke-free beach

The first in Italy to restrict smoking on the sand, in 2016.

The Tagliamento mouth

East of the resort, the river reaches the sea through a lagoon and dune system -- the undeveloped edge of an otherwise built-up coast.

Bibione occupies a low sandy strip at the mouth of the Tagliamento, at the eastern end of the Venetian coast where it meets Friuli.

The beach is wide and the sea shelves gradually, as it does along this whole shore.

Behind the resort the ground is reclaimed marsh and lagoon, drained in the twentieth century and lying barely above sea level, kept dry by embankments and pumping stations.

Fragments of the original dune and pine belt survive at the edges of the built-up area, and the lagoon and dune system at the Tagliamento mouth to the east is the largest piece of natural coast nearby.

Beneath all of it is the thermal aquifer that supplies the spa.
