Noale is a small walled town on the plain between Venice, Padua and Treviso, and its centre is one of the more unexpected sights in the Veneto: the Rocca dei Tempesta, a moated medieval fortress sitting on its own island of water, now a public park.

The town grew around it under the Tempesta family, who held Noale from the twelfth century until Venice absorbed it in 1339, and the arcaded Piazza Castello, the clock tower gate and the surviving bell tower all date from that world.

Its other identity is entirely modern: Aprilia, the motorcycle manufacturer and one of the most successful marques in Grand Prix racing, was founded here in 1945 and still has its headquarters in the town.
