Barolo's sights are one building and one landscape.
The building is the Castello Comunale Falletti, standing over the village square, which holds the WiMu — Museo del Vino a Barolo, designed by François Confino as a route through wine culture rather than a cabinet of objects, together with a regional wine shop where you can taste across several producers. Open 10:30 to 19:00, last admission 18:00, €9.
The landscape is the reason the building matters. The hills around the village were inscribed by UNESCO on 22 June 2014 as the Langa of Barolo — one of three Langhe components of the Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont, alongside the Hills of Barbaresco and the castle of Grinzane Cavour.
Beyond that, the attractions are the cellars, which are visits rather than sights and generally need an appointment. And ten minutes away, La Morra has the terrace from which this whole amphitheatre is visible at once — the single best view in the Langhe, and the right companion to a morning in the castle.
