Agra

Agra Culture

Agra belongs to the Braj cultural region, even though Mughal architecture dominates its international image. The district administration names Hindi as its language, while English is common in the visitor economy.

Stone cutting and inlay connect present workshops to the skills visible at the Taj Mahal. The district also identifies leather goods, zari-zardozi embroidery and stone carving among its important small industries. A careful workshop visit distinguishes hand process from mass retail.

Food provides a more everyday route into the city. Petha is Agra's official district cuisine product: a translucent sweet sold in several textures and flavours. Dalmoth and gajak add savoury and seasonal contrast. Busy shops with local turnover usually tell more than souvenir counters beside a gate.

Public celebrations do not form one heritage performance. Taj Mahotsav presents crafts and regional arts near the Taj, Ram Barat moves through the city before Dussehra, and Bateshwar's fair belongs to a temple landscape far outside the centre.
