Meenakshi Amman Temple is the city's central sacred and architectural complex. Its twin shrines, gopurams, halls and tank require time, but access follows worship, security and current temple rules. Not every ritual or interior is a tourist experience.
Thirumalai Nayak Palace preserves part of a much larger seventeenth-century royal complex. Its great courtyard, columns and stucco work make it the clearest secular counterpart to the temple district.
The Gandhi Memorial Museum occupies the Tamukkam Palace and interprets India's independence movement and Gandhi's life. Confirm galleries and opening arrangements through the institution before travelling specifically for one display.
Markets, the Vaigai corridor and smaller religious sites add context, while day trips can reach distinct temple towns or hill landscapes. Keep those places separate in the itinerary rather than calling everything “Madurai.”
