Columbus is a city of neighbourhoods rather than monuments, and the attractions follow from that.

Downtown holds the Ohio Statehouse, free to enter and tour, the Columbus Museum of Art, the Scioto Mile riverfront parks and the North Market.

German Village and the Short North are walking districts — the attraction is the streets themselves, plus the shops, galleries and restaurants in them. Neither costs anything to visit.

Ohio State’s campus is open, and the Wexner Center for the Arts is a significant building in its own right.

Further out: the Columbus Zoo, consistently rated among the best in the United States, and the Franklin Park Conservatory, both needing a car.

Two or three districts a day, on foot within each.
