Cleveland’s attractions cluster in three places, which makes planning simple.
University Circle, five miles east of downtown, holds the museums and the concert hall. The Cleveland Museum of Art is free every day for the permanent collection, which includes major Asian, medieval and Impressionist holdings; special exhibitions are ticketed. The Cleveland Museum of Natural History and botanical garden charge.
The lakefront holds the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the science centre, both ticketed and both busy at weekends.
Downtown and the near west side hold Public Square, the arcades, Playhouse Square and the West Side Market, all free to walk into.
The two clusters are far enough apart that a car or the rapid transit is needed between them; do not plan to walk it.
