Akron’s attractions divide between the industrial-era inheritance and the national park on its doorstep.
Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens is the major paid attraction and worth a half day, with separate seasonal programming including a substantial Christmas display.
Cuyahoga Valley National Park is free, has no entrance station, and runs for thirty-odd kilometres north from the city. The towpath trail, Brandywine Falls and the Ledges are the main draws, and the scenic railway is separately ticketed.
The Akron Art Museum charges modestly and is architecturally interesting in its own right.
Free and outdoors: the canal locks through downtown, Lock 3, the Summit Metro Parks system and the Gorge.
A car is needed for the park and for anything outside the centre.
