Atlantic City's attractions follow its narrow island geography. The Boardwalk and beach form the main corridor, with casino resorts, Steel Pier and Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall creating different clusters along the oceanfront. Walking a useful section is more revealing than trying to enter every resort.
At the northern end, Absecon Lighthouse preserves the city's maritime landscape. Its tower was first lit in 1857 and still holds its original first-order Fresnel lens. Gardner's Basin and the Inlet add back-bay views and a different relationship to the water.
Inland attractions are more dispersed. Ducktown combines food, arts spaces and Boardwalk Hall; the Orange Loop concentrates small venues near Tennessee Avenue; local museums and community projects interpret histories that casino architecture cannot. Check current hours because several smaller institutions keep limited schedules.
