San Francisco Events

San Francisco's events are tied to specific communities and places. Lunar New Year brings its major evening parade through downtown and Chinatown in winter. Bay to Breakers crosses the city in May, while Pride fills the Civic Center and Market Street at the end of June.

Summer adds street fairs, concerts and Outside Lands in Golden Gate Park. Autumn brings further music, film, food and neighbourhood programmes. Some are free civic celebrations; others are expensive ticketed festivals whose perimeter and transport demand affect nearby residents.

Dates change each year. At the time of this review, the 2027 Chinese New Year Parade is scheduled for 20 February and Bay to Breakers for 16 May. Verify the official calendar before booking a flight around an event.

Expect hotel prices, Muni loads, road closures and restaurant demand to rise near major weekends. Stay near a useful transit line, not necessarily beside the venue, and leave room for the event's community meaning rather than treating it only as spectacle.
