Site Features

Changed

The beach

Around fifteen kilometres of fine sand, shallow and gently shelving, lifeguarded along its length. The shelving is the reason this coast became a family destination.

Via Bafile

Among Europe's longest pedestrian shopping streets, running parallel to the beach and busy every evening in season.

The water parks

Aqualandia and Caribe Bay are among the largest in Italy and are a substantial part of why families come.

The towers

A handful of contemporary residential high-rises, including work by Carlos Ferrater, which give Jesolo the only real skyline on this coast.

Landscape

Changed

Jesolo occupies a low, flat sandy strip between the Adriatic and the reclaimed land behind, between the mouths of the Sile and the Piave.

The beach is wide and the sea shelves very gradually, so you can wade a long way out -- the single physical fact behind the whole resort economy.

Behind the built-up strip the ground is reclaimed marsh, drained in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and lying barely above, in places below, sea level. It is kept dry by embankments and pumping stations.

The natural dune and pine belt that once ran along this shore survives here only in fragments; the Laguna del Mort, a few kilometres east, is the nearest piece of unbuilt coast.
