Strada del Prosecco

The Strada del Prosecco runs the ridge from Conegliano west to Valdobbiadene, about 40 km through the steep terraced hills that UNESCO inscribed in 2019. Laid out in 1966, it was Italy's first designated wine road, and it remains the only sensible way to see the landscape the wine comes from.

Visit Responsibly
The terraces are the listed heritage, and they survive only because growers still maintain them by hand. Buying from the small hillside producers rather than from flat-land bulk Prosecco is the most direct support available.
The road is narrow, and summer weekend traffic is a genuine burden on villages of a few hundred people. Cycling it, or coming midweek, materially helps.
Stay out of the vineyard rows. They are private working ground, the terraces erode easily underfoot, and the drop between levels is further than it looks.
Plan Your Visit
Free and open -- it is a public road. Driving it end to end takes about ninety minutes without stopping, and most of a day with cellar visits.
A car or a bike is essential; buses do not usefully serve the ridge. Cellar visits should be booked, as many are small family operations. If you intend to taste, arrange a driver -- enforcement is active and the road is demanding.
