The visitors' book is carved into a loggia. Plaques beneath the Loggia della Repubblica Nolese record the passage of Dante Alighieri — who names Noli in the Purgatorio — of Cristoforo Colombo on 31 May 1476, setting out for Portugal, and of Giordano Bruno in 1576.

The patron saint arrived by translation, not by birth. Sant'Eugenio, a bishop from Africa, was buried on the islet of Bergeggi in 505 and brought to Noli in 1192; his feast is the second Sunday in July, and a fifteenth-century Pallio di Sant'Eugenio is kept in the concattedrale.

The dialect has its own name. In the Finalese area the local variety of Ligurian is called finarìn; Noli's own form of the name is Nöi.

And the local dish is protected. The cicciarelli, a preparation of small fish, carries a Slow Food Presidium. The wine of the valleys between Noli and Finale Ligure is the Lumassina.
