The Preakness Stakes, run on the third Saturday in May at Pimlico Race Course (moved to Laurel Park during Pimlico's reconstruction), is Maryland's signature event, the second leg of horse racing's Triple Crown since 1873 and the best-attended horse race in North America after the Kentucky Derby; "Preakness Weekend" also includes the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes for fillies. The 152nd running is scheduled for Sunday, 23 May 2027.
Chincoteague/Assateague's pony traditions, historic reenactments at Antietam and Fort McHenry, Chesapeake seafood festivals on the Eastern Shore, and Baltimore's arts and food events fill the calendar through spring, summer and fall. Confirm exact dates with each event's organizer before travelling, as many shift year to year.
