Getting Around
Getting in. Hamad International is a major hub for Qatar Airways and is consistently rated among the best airports in the world. The metro runs from the terminal into the city.
The Doha Metro opened in 2019 and is fast, cheap, air-conditioned and clean, with three lines covering the airport, West Bay, Msheireb, Lusail and Education City. Free shuttle buses connect stations to nearby destinations.
Taxis are metered, and Karwa is the official operator; Uber and Careem both work.
Driving. Hire cars are inexpensive and the roads are excellent. A four-wheel-drive is required for the inland sea and the southern dunes, and going with a guide is strongly advised — vehicles get stuck in soft sand routinely.
Walking is practical along the Corniche and in Msheireb in winter, and not at all in summer.
