How to Get Around Saint Mary

Getting Around

Getting in: most visitors fly into Montego Bay, about two hours west along the coast, or Kingston, about an hour and a half over the mountains through the Junction road or via the highway.

A hire car is the practical choice here. The coast road is scenic and reasonable; the inland roads are narrow, steep and potholed, and a higher-clearance vehicle helps. Driving is on the left.

Route taxis run between the towns along fixed routes for very little and are how most people travel; they fill up before leaving.

Drivers can be hired for the day through guesthouses, which is often the least stressful option.

The Junction road from Kingston through the Wag Water gorge is a fine drive and a slow one.

Nothing runs to a timetable. Allow slack.
