Possagno

Possagno Culture

Possagno's identity is almost entirely Canova. The village maintains his birthplace, his church and his tomb, and the museum beside them is its largest employer and its reason for being on any itinerary.

The older trade is brick. Kilns on the edge of the village have fired terracotta from local clay for generations, and the tall kiln chimneys are still part of the skyline — an ordinary working landscape sitting beside a neoclassical monument.

Like most of this part of Veneto, the local language alongside Italian is Venetian, spoken more in the village than in the museum.
