The Po River Delta
How to Get Around The Po River Delta
Getting Around
A car is essential. There is no railway into the Delta itself; the nearest stations are Rovigo and Adria, on lines from Venice and Ferrara, and neither is close to the water.
Buses connect the villages but are infrequent and are not a practical way to see the park.
By road, Venice is about an hour and a half, Ferrara about an hour, Ravenna about the same. Distances within the Delta look short and take longer than expected -- roads run along embankments and there are few bridges.
Cycling is the ideal way to move here: completely flat, quiet roads, and long marked routes along the river embankments. Bicycle hire is available in the main villages.
Boats are what actually get you into the landscape. Excursions run from Ca' Tiepolo, Porto Tolle, Scardovari and Rosolina, mostly from spring to autumn.
