Finalborgo

How to get around Finalborgo

Getting around

The borgo is flat, walled and entirely walkable. The centre is small and enclosed, entered through surviving gates and arranged around its squares; almost everything is within five minutes on foot.

Cars stay outside, and the arrangement is published. Finalborgo is a historic borgo and access by car is limited. In the immediate vicinity of the entrance to the walls there are paid and disc-timed car parks, and the Municipio car park, a few steps from the museum, is free and has spaces for disabled drivers.

The bus is the 40. TPL Linea buses 40 and 40/ (Savona-Finalborgo) run up from the station or from the seafront of Finale Ligure Marina; the journey is short and the stop, Finalborgo Centro, is 200 metres from the Santa Caterina complex.

The station is down on the coast. Finale Ligure Marina, on the Genoa-Ventimiglia line, is about 1.6 km from the borgo. By car the A10 exit is Finale Ligure, then signs for "Finalborgo" and "Centro Storico".

All of that is published by the museum, not by the town hall. The Comune di Finale Ligure publishes no ZTL, no parking scheme and no transport timetable for any part of the comune; its seat is Via Pertica 29, 17024 Finale Ligure, switchboard 019 689011.

Connections from Finalborgo

How easily, and at what cost, can you combine the region’s main destinations?

RouteBest optionOne-way timeTravel Smart take
Finalborgo and Finale LigureBusinexpensive~5 min by roadExcellent day-trip connection. Finalborgo works well as a base for Finale Ligure.

Cost compares the options for each route rather than quoting a fare: inexpensive means the price is not a factor in planning, moderate cost means a real line in the budget, and the expensive option is one worth weighing against the alternative. Fares change from year to year; the ranking between them does not.

The museum publishes the route and tells you to check the times elsewhere. The Museo Archeologico del Finale gives the A10 exit, the bus numbers and the stop, and then advises consulting the updated timetables on the official Trenitalia and TPL Linea sites before departure. That is sound: it publishes the lines, not the schedule.

Arriving by car, in order. From the A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia take the Finale Ligure exit, follow signs for Finalborgo and Centro Storico, and once in the borgo follow signs for the Museo Archeologico or the Chiostri di Santa Caterina. Leave the car outside the walls.

Arriving on foot or by bus. 1.6 km from Finale Ligure Marina station, or TPL Linea 40 and 40/ to Finalborgo Centro, 200 m from the museum.

Getting into the museum itself. It describes itself as completely accessible, with a lift and facilitated routes for people with motor disability; the lift is in the second cloister and has a video entryphone. All exhibition rooms are free of architectural barriers.

The comune publishes two freephone fault lines and nothing else operational. Water-main or sewer faults, 800 995105; ordinary maintenance of lighting, asphalt and urban greenery, 800 991952. No individual office publishes a direct line or an opening hour, and no tourist office is published at all.
