Friuli Venezia Giulia Climate Patterns

The Julian and Carnic Alps in the north have a genuine mountain climate, with cold winters and reliable snow at altitude. The Friulian plain and coast are milder, with a climate closer to the rest of the northern Adriatic. Trieste sits in between -- generally mild, but exposed to the Bora, a strong, cold, gusty wind that funnels down off the Karst plateau and can disrupt ferry and outdoor plans for days at a stretch, most often in winter.
