Aosta Valley
Aosta Valley Climate Patterns
Aosta Valley's climate varies sharply with altitude, from a relatively mild valley floor to genuine high-mountain conditions on its peaks.
Aosta town and the main valley sit in a rain shadow created by the surrounding mountains, giving the region a reputation as one of Italy's sunniest and driest Alpine areas -- summers are warm and pleasant, winters cold but often clear.
At altitude, around Courmayeur, Cervinia, and the high passes, winters are genuinely harsh, with heavy, reliable snowfall that sustains the region's ski industry from December into spring, while summers stay cool even when the valley floor is warm.
