Abruzzo Climate Patterns
Abruzzo's short distance between sea and summit produces two genuinely different climates within the same region.
The Adriatic coast, around Pescara and Vasto, has a mild Mediterranean climate -- warm summers, mild winters, and the region's most reliable weather for a beach visit.
The mountain interior, including L'Aquila and the high plain of Campo Imperatore, has a much harsher continental and alpine climate -- genuinely cold winters with heavy, reliable snow (Campo Imperatore's stark winter landscape earned it the nickname «Piccolo Tibet»), and summers that stay cool and pleasant even when the coast is at its hottest.
