Keep a little mystery in your trip planning: flip this switch on and Explorer Picture Mode shows a stylized version of every place instead of the real photo, so you can go by the description and reviews first and picture it your own way -- turn it off again any time, or reveal the real photo for just one place at a time from its own page.

Germany

Germany Climate Patterns

Changed

Most of Germany has a temperate seasonal climate, with warm summers and cold, damp winters -- neither extreme by continental standards, though conditions vary meaningfully between regions.

The north and west, closer to the North Sea and Atlantic weather systems, have milder winters and cooler summers with more year-round rainfall. The south and east, further from the coast, see hotter summers and colder winters with more reliable snowfall.

The Bavarian Alps and other higher-elevation areas like the Harz Mountains and Black Forest experience notably colder winters and heavier snow than the surrounding lowlands.

Rain is possible year-round across the whole country, and layered clothing is a more reliable strategy than planning around any single season's typical weather.
