An Entrance to Remember

The main idea for this renovation was to open up the front entrance and to have better flow in the kitchen. The home owners also wanted to turn their main bathroom into an ensuite bathroom and add a powder room on main floor of their bungalow home in Ottawa. They contacted OakWood renovation company and begun their transformation.

With 2 bedrooms in the finished basement, the renovator opted to reduce the main floor office space and install a powder room accessible from the hallway. No plumbing needed to be relocated in the existing main bathroom as the existing hallway door was simply cancelled and a new door to access the ensuite was installed from the master bedroom.

The office French door was moved closer to the front entrance which the Home Owners clients can now access easily. Hardwood floors were installed in the new kitchen and existing sunroom to match the existing floors in living room.

A new kitchen layout with a sink in island overlooking the backyard and sunroom was designed by Oakwood’s kitchen designers. The previous kitchen layout had two openings to access the kitchen from the hallway. By blocking off one of the openings, the renovator could add cabinets and valuable working surface which was desperately needed. The Home Owners opted for a dark island with contrasting white cabinets along the walls. A beautiful dark brown mixed with cream color granite countertop blends both cabinet colors very well.

Well chosen pendant lights hang over the new island and add needed light for washing dishes and for the pull up stools. This area is now an ideal spot to help with homework while getting dinner ready. A large built in pantry keeps all of food and cooking utensils well organized and off of the counters.

Well placed pot lights, including one inside of a glass door corner cabinet, add light in just the right places. A large stainless steel hood fan is a focal point and really pops with a neutral beige, square tile backsplash behind it.

The garage space was not excluded from this make over and a new garage door was installed which converted the existing carport into a fully closed in garage.
By reorganizing the main floor Oakwood was able to make this home work for the Home Owners again and for many years to come.
